Inspiration to Start the Work Week

Dwelling in the wilderness, you blotted out every image of the passions from your soul, having in their place instead printed on your soul the sublime Godlike form of the holy virtues. And you shone forth to such an extent that you were able to fly across the waters, O blessed one, and levitate above the ground when you raised your hands up to God in prayer. Now, O blessed Mother all-glorious Saint Mary, as you stand before the Master with confidence, importunely pray for us.

St. Mary of Egypt is an amazing example of someone that was able to turn her life around because she repented and gave her life to Christ. We ask her to intercede for us as we struggle to overcome those obstacles in our life that separate us from the love of our Lord. As we continue our lenten journey, may she be an inspiration to us.

May the reflection below encourage you to take the necessary steps in your life to draw closer to Christ.

Love in Christ,
Fr. Paul

Today on this fifth Sunday of Lent, we remember Saint Mary of Egypt. Her life reveals both the destructive power of sin and the even greater power of God’s mercy. Sin once ruled her life so completely that she felt unable to escape its grip. Yet the Church proclaims of her, “Who once was filled with every carnal sin has become today, through repentance, the bride of Christ.”

Mary shows us that sin is not just a list of wrong actions—it is a force that distorts our identity and pulls us away from who we were created to be. But she also shows that sin is not final. When she encountered Christ, she discovered that grace is stronger than addiction, stronger than shame, and stronger than the habits that once controlled her.

Her courage teaches us that overcoming sin begins with a single moment of truth, a willingness to turn toward God instead of running from Him. Mary didn’t become holy overnight; she fought, struggled, and persevered, trusting that God could heal what she could not fix alone. Her life reminds young people today that no sin has the last word when repentance opens the door to transformation. This week, take one step to confront the sin or struggle that weighs on your heart. Ask God for the strength to rise, just as Saint Mary of Egypt did. Her victory can become our encouragement to begin again. #Lent #Orthodox #Repentance #StMary
